We are going hungry, so others don’t have to.
You have heard me talking about the upcoming 30 hour famine we are participating in here in Olivia.
Here’s the scoop.
We are not eating for 30 hours. We are going to be experiencing hunger first hand. We will be learning and raising awareness about poverty, drought, hunger, famine, and death with other students around the South West MN Synod.
And this is why:

Jesus came to the hill and after he was teaching asked his disciples to provide food for all who were there. One boy, with barely enough food for himself, offered what he had. Maybe it was his $1.
He was not looked down on, he was not shoved away. His food was taken into the hands of our Lord, blessed, and was multiplied.
Can we not do the same?
Can we take our one meal, one breakfast, one lunch at Max’s, and rather donate that money to this cause?
How is anything we are doing going to help? How can you help?
The answer to that, is in this video:

All donations go toward one of 4 foundations dedicated to helping end hunger around the world.
ELCA World Hunger : http://www.elca.org/Our-Faith-In-Action/Responding-to-the-World/ELCA-World-Hunger.aspx
100 Wells Foundation : http://100wellscampaign.com/
World Vision : http://www.worldvision.org/
Kids Against Hunger : http://www.kidsagainsthunger.org/
We will be collecting donations through October 14th.
That Sunday we will be breaking our 30 hour fast with Holy Communion.
The Holy Spirit will be moving through us as we end our short, planned, and temporary famine.
Please offer a prayer for everyone affected by hunger and poverty; their famine continues.
Blessings to you all.
