Our baptisms give us a new identity and new relationships–a whole new song! It does this not just once, but every single day we are given this gift. How are we going to live in to it.

To give context to the following song I would have to start by saying that this song (40) is the last song on U2’s album “War”. This album was released at the peak of the violence in Northern Ireland in the early 80s. The albums first track “Sunday, Bloody Sunday” was about the massacres that were taking place all over the place in Ireland at the time. The refrain to that song in part goes “How long must we sing this song?” It was getting old. Another day, another round of bad news and more deaths. So, if that started the album, in my open “40”–based on Psalm 40–is the answer. The Lord will give us a new song to sing. He is the one who lifts us up and sends us out to sing a new song that the world needs to hear. So, as you listen to this song, what is the “song” that God is calling you to “sing” in your life in a new way? And, may the God of creation, the God of new beginnings give you the strength to “sing” that “song”.
