At first glance the answer to Jesus question of whether or not saltiness can be restored, is a logical “there’s no way this could be done!” But, a closer look at the question in light of our question for the week “What do you want me to do for you?”, gives us a much different perspective.
This is a beautiful song by Allison Krauss called “Down to the River to Pray”. The question of “where do we go to have our saltiness restored?”, is best answered for me today by this song. The river imagery is a powerful symbol for me of baptism. It is not stagnant it is an ever flowing stream (living water). The grace of Christ runs through our lives and moves us along the rocky rapids, the gently rolling stream, the flooded waters, the murky waters, the bubbling waters, the exciting waters until we all merge into the great water of his heavenly Kingdom. I go to these baptismal promises to renew my “saltiness”. What images come to your mind as you watch this video?
